THE Balearic Minister for Tourism, Francesc Buils, claimed yesterday that central government will provide the money needed for the reformation of the Playa de Palma by next September.
The controversial project is currently on hold while consortium continue bidding for the project.
A winner is not expected to be announced until February but work can not start until Madrid honours its commitment and comes up with part of the funding.
The Playa de Palma reformation project was actually signed and sealed by the former Balearic president Jauma Matas, but Buils is adamant that the project has to go ahead in order to secure the resort's future as a popular tourist destination.
The Minister for Tourism said yesterday that he is not going to allow party politicos to jeopardize the project which is not expected to get underway until early 2009 - providing the Balearic government can raise the necessary funding next year when cross-party support for the project will be vital.
