PALMA
PALMA airport is going to operate two new corporate travel centres to cater specifically for business passengers, the majority of which fly on private jets.
The concessions for the two FBO (Fixed Base Operator) were put up for tender by the Spanish airport authority AENA yesterday which explained that the initial management contracts will be for at least two years.
Corporate and business air traffic at Palma airport is continuing to grow and the operators of the new corporate terminals will not only be responsible for passenger disembarkation and the transfer of passengers and crew to and from their aircraft, the new business facilities will also include executive catering services, VIP lounges with Wifi coverage and access to air taxi and helicopter services.
According to AENA, there are 200 registered corporate aircraft, most of them private jets, in Spain which has one of the tenth largest fleets of business aircraft.
The airport authority also plans to eventually build hangars for private jets once the new business service is well established. The announcement has been welcomed by the local air transport industry which has been calling for greater private and corporate jet facilities at Palma airport.
