THE Balearic commerce sector has reached agreement on the eight Sunday or bank holiday opening days which will be allowed next year.
These dates will be presented to the Balearic ministry of commerce for approval today, at a meeting of the Commerce Advisory Board, which is chaired by minister Josep Joan Cardona.
The dates are:
l Sunday, January 28
l Maundy Thursday, April 5
l Sunday, May 20
l Sunday, June 24
· August 5
l Sunday, September 23
· December 8
l Sunday, December 23.
Sources said that agreement between management and unions was almost unanimous, except for the penultimate date, which the unions disputed.
The unions proposed December 6 (Constitution Day) instead of the 8th (the religious feast of the Immaculate Conception).
The agenda of the Advisory Board's meeting does not include the sector's request to delay the start of the winter sales to January 15, because of poor sales in the footwear and clothing sectors, attributed to the mild autumn.
