Palma.—The number of foreign residents employed in the Balearic nose-dived by almost 25 percent last month, far higher than the national average and underlining the big problems which the local economy still faces.
According to official figures there are now just 54,000 non-Spanish citizens employed in the Balearics. Of these half come from European Union countries and the remainder are from elsewhere. The year-on-year figures clearly underline the lack of employment with 18,000 foreigners losing their jobs in 12 months.
