BRITISH Airways announced plans yesterday to link Palma with London City Aiport from next May. Initially it will only operate three times a week but is set to rise during the summer months.
Yesterday´s announcement is a major boost for Palma especially as BMI (formally British Midland) has now cancelled its daily route to London Heathrow.
Apart from Palma there will also be a link to Ibiza.
Luke Hayhoe, a commercial manager for BA CityFlyer, the wholly owned British Airways subsidiary that will be operating the service, was quoted as saying that they believed that their new service would prove exceptionally popular with the leisure market. Presently, London City Airport is primarily a business airport.
There is a growing population living and working in the City of London who want to take time off at weekends and the Balearic Islands is a perfect destination, he said.
