THE environmental watchdog GOB has presented a series of objections to plans to build a new power station beside the Balearic University because of the social and environmental impact it would have. A spokesman pointed out that the land in question was not included as an electricity generating area under the Balearic government's master plan for energy. He also criticised the fact that the new plant will use gasoil for its turbines and the pipelines present a danger of polluting the aquifers in the area through leaks and bursts. GOB claims that the plant means industrial buildings as well as turbines, smokestacks and storage tanks will be built on rural land.
