AROUND 1'000 people took part in a demonstration in Palma yesterday against the number of corruption scandals emerging in the Balearics in recent years.
Organised on internet space Facebook, the march was not politically motivated but rather a protest at what ordinary people see as the unacceptable and shameful face of individuals in government misusing public funds.
Starting off in the Borne, demonstraters made their way to the highly expensive home of ex Balearic President, Jaume Matas, located in the historic centre of Palma known cynically as the palacete, or little palace.
Matas is implicated in a case of alleged misappropriation of government money during his time in office. As the protesters moved forward through the city, they were joined by large numbers of supporters who wanted to air their indignation about being cheated by politicians in whom they had been persuaded to put their trust.
