Palma.—Spanish Customs and Excise, in cooperation with the European Commission’s Anti-Fraud department and other European customs officials have smashed a massive tobacco smuggling ring and arrested at least ten people.
The gang was based in the Basque Country but specialised in smuggling tobacco from the Balearics and other regions of Spain into the United Kingdom.
The organisation used a tug registered in Honduras for their operation and declared that their business was shipping tobacco from the Middle East to West Africa.
