DUBAI HOTEL GROUP PLANNING ON “LIVENING UP” MAJORCA

JUMEIRAH, the Dubai-based luxury hotel group which operates some of the finest and most lavish properties in the world, has confirmed that it will be opening its first European hotel and spa outside of London here in Majorca in early 2011.

The Jumeriah Port Soller, originally the German-owned Hotel Sa Talaia, will join the likes of the famous Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai in the international hotel chain's portfolio which is going to be rapidly expanding over the next few years.

Sources for Jumeirah in London yesterday told the Bulletin that the credit crunch, in particular the debt crisis which has recently hit Dubai, has not affected the Jumeirah hotel group and plans to open in some of the most select and exclusive destinations in the world are “continuing as planned”.

According to the Jumeirah Group, which is about to open its third hotel in London, the Port Soller resort is going to be its first in Europe and considers the location for the cliff-top hotel to be ideal.

“It's going to be a five star hotel but a family orientated property which we hope will be frequently used by the local resident population,” the Bulletin was told.

The group which operates some of the most unusual, innovative and spectacular hotels and resorts in the world said yesterday that they “plan to liven up Majorca.” Derek Picot, Jumeirah regional manager recently told the industry website Hotel News Now that he believes Jumeirah Port Soller would hold its own against the competition because it would offer “a stunning location and a leading product and service on the island”.
