THE number of foreigners with a residence card rose by 32 percent from January to September 2005.
A total of 121'757 foreigners with a residence card were registered in the Balearics at the end of September, which was a rise of 32.3 percent from the beginning of January, when the figure was 92'098. According to the Immigration Department the number of foreigners in the Balearics has risen by 29'729 in the first nine months of the year. By nationality, in the Balearics 36.4 percent (44'334) came from the European Union, while some 32.5 percent (39'612) came from Latin American countries, 19.8 percent (24'216) were African, 6.2 percent (7'593) were from European countries outside the European Union, 4.3 percent were Asian, 0.4 percent from North America and the rest from the central and south Pacific (84) or their origin was unknown (8).
