Person of the Week

By Ray Fleming

One week ago this newspaper's ITAL/Looking Back/ recalled Nelson Mandela's appearance in 1963 in a South African court accused of treachery. In a four hour speech the 45-year-old said: I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live togther in harmony with equal opportunities. It's an ideal which I hope to live for and achieve. But if need be it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." He lived and did everything he could to make his ideal a reality in place of apartheid oppression, before he died.
