High winds continue to cause problems

SHIPPING IS GRADUALLY GETTING BACK TO NORMAL

THE wind continued to play havoc with shipping in the Balearics yesterday, while Calvia, particularly Santa Ponsa and Costa d'en Blanes, was hit by a storm which brought high waves and strong gusts of wind. The ferry Millenium II was forced to cancel its departure and there are still delays in the port of Ibiza.
The Millenium II, which was yesterday due to sail at 10am from the port of Palma to Barcelona, had to again cancel its departure due to the wind, which is continuing to cause delays in the sea links with the island of Ibiza. According to Port Authority sources, the Millenium II had already cancelled its previous departure and anticipated sailing yesterday but had to remain moored in the port of Palma hoping to be able to sail soon. Port Authority sources said yesterday that, little by little, they were “returning to normal” in the Balearic ports after suffering gusts of wind of up to 85 kilometres per hour in some places. These winds, which caused several incidents like fallen trees and awnings, none of them serious, had caused a delay in the arrival in Ibiza of the cargo ship Conde de Burgos, owned by Trasmediterranea, from Barcelona. There have also been other delays in Ibiza. The Manuel Azaña, moored in the island at 4.30 yesterday after arriving three and a half hours late from Denia, while the Carmen del Mar, from Iscomar, left at 8am. On the brighter side, the connections between Ibiza and Formentera are getting back to normal and the ship Arlequin Rojo is operating again, but the Nixe remains cancelled and has been replaced by the Rapido de Formentera. According to the Balearic Meteorological Centre the weather settled down throughout the day.
The outlook for today is cloudy intervals with a drop in temperature at night, but slightly warmer during the day.
