PALMA/MANACOR
RISING unemployment is hitting all areas of the Balearics and in the central Majorcan district known as Es Raiguer, commercially important towns such as Inca, Lloseta and Consell are experiencing dole queue numbers which have shot up by over 60 percent.
It has been many years since the key concern of residents of Majorca has been unemployment. Gone are the days when job seekers can pick up work in a question of days. It's now no easy task to secure a contract, whether the applicant is a local or an immigrant. Latest dole queue figures for November which are compared with those of the same month in 2007, reveal that the numbers out of work have been increasing at a spectacular rate, not just in Palma but right across the outlying municipalities.
