The Balearic High Court has been hearing all week the case for and against Jaume Matas and yesterday afternoon, the jury revealed that it had unanimously found him guilty of having bribed a leading local hotelier in to give his wife a job. According to the jury, they consider Matas guilty of having demanded that the hotelier pay his wife, Maite Areal, 2,938 euros per month plus the Summer and Christmas bonuses , a total of 42,111 euros in exchange for her services - which were apparently very little because in 2007 Jaume Matas spent the tail end of the year working in the States accompanied by his wife after losing the election.
