Majorca’s Formentor lighthouse already houses a restaurant and is used for cultural events and tours and the government wants to roll this out across the country.
Palma.—The announcement was made yesterday by the Minister for Development, Ana Pastor, who said that the State Port Authority is going to “immediately embark on this ambitious plan.”
The project is going to be called “Lighthouses of Spain” and Pastor hopes that by eventually allowing the private sector to manage some of the country’s 387 lighthouses, the properties can be preserved as part of the country’s natural heritage while also providing greater public access to the old lighthouses so they can enjoy the views and the history of the site.
