AS the furor over the loss of flights between Palma and the UK continues, the Balearic government, the Majorcan Chamber of Commerce and the Spanish National Airports Authority (AENA) have announced its intention to try and recover lost routes while increasing the number of air links between Palma and other European destinations.
A new Route Development Committee has been set up involving representatives from the regional ministries for Transport and Tourism and has been charged with boosting air links
It is aiming to set up connections between the Balearics and alternative client countries, thereby complementing the already-existing links between Palma and major client countries such as the United Kingdom and Germany.
The mission for the Committee, said a spokesman yesterday, is to develop those links in which the Chamber of Commerce, hoteliers' associations and the tourist industry in general have a particular interest. It is vital that we recover connections that have been allowed to lapse - such as the UK links - and to set up completely new ones, he explained.
