A total of 97 Spanish restaurants have received stars in the 2004 Michelin Red Guide.
They include two in Majorca, Tristan in Puerto Portals and El Molí d'En Bou in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar.
The tyre company confirmed that four establishments in Spain have received three stars: Arzak (San Sebastian); Martín Berasategui (Lasarte); El Bulli (Roses) and Can Fabes (Sant Celoni). In the two star category, Majorca's Tristan of Puerto Portals now figures prominently, as do Atrio (Cáceres); Akelarre (San Sebastián); El Celler de Can Roca (Gerona); La Broche (Madrid); Girasol (Moraira); Zuberoa (Oiartzun) and Sant Pau (Sant Pol de Mar). Within this group, the restaurant in Cáceres, Atrio has gone up one category with the addition of an extra star under the 2004 guide. Meanwhile a total of 85 restaurants are sporting one star.
Those awarded a star for the first time are L'Alezna (Caceres); Paladares (Gijón); La Solana (Gijón); Coque (Humanes); Vivaldi (León); Casa Marcelo (Santiago de Compostela); El Molí d'En Bou (Sant Llorenç des Cardassar) and Zaldiarán (Vitoria). The Michelin Red Guide for Spain and Portugal has highlighted 6'304 establishments in its latest edition. Of these, 3'778 are hotels (including 298 rural hotels), 2'383 are restaurants and 142 are bars, in 2'240 locations, 1'846 of them in Spain. Educational prize for Palma centre
THE Aula Cultural association of Palma has been awarded the Miguel Hernandez prize of 2003. The prize is awarded annually by the central ministry of education, culture and sports, in recognition of work in the field of adult literacy programmes. The centre will now represent Spain in the International Literacy Awards of UNESCO. The prize consists of 12'020 euros and a certificate.
