PALMA
THE National Police yesterday issued a warning for all passengers on buses running between Palma and Arenal to be extra vigilant for pick pockets.
Apparently, there has been an alarming increase in the number of thefts on the number 23 and 15 buses over recent months and while the police are going to be stepping up their security operations, they are also asking for the general public to help by keeping their eyes open and immediately reporting any suspicious behaviour to the bus driver or, if and when possible, the police.
According to the police, passengers are most likely to fall victim to pick pockets when they are either getting on or off the buses.
The latest incident was on November 18 when two tourists, the most common targets, were robbed by a pair of middle aged Romanians just after they had boarded the bus and paid for their tickets.
Fortunately, they managed to report the theft quickly and the woman was able to recognise one of the pick pockets who had stolen 1'000 euros in cash and a selection of credit cards.
