PALMA
DURING the month of October 2'202'061 passengers passed through Palma airport, which is an increase of 2.8 percent in comparison with the same month last year.
However, there were 18'206 aircraft movements, some 0.6 percent less, according to figures published by AENA (the Spanish airports authority).
Also last month Palma airport handled a total of 1'873 tons of freight, some 15.9 percent less than in 2006.
With regard to the type of flight used, 1'767'048 flew on regular flights and 432'229 on charter flights.
By nationality, considering the countries with most traffic, the total of passengers flying from Germany was 862'493 (2.2 percent less), from the United Kingdom 527'534 (8.9 percent more) and the number of passengers flying from mainland Spain was 524'461 (4.7 percent more).
Taking into account the origin and destination of the passengers, the airports with the highest amount of passengers for Palma were Barcelona (144'049), Madrid (140'996), Dusseldorf (100'316), Manchester (86'607), Hamburg (82'393), and Cologne (79'693). The airlines which brought the most passengers were: Air Berlin (575'398); Air Europa (207'966); TuiFly (173'224); Condor (172'691); Air Nostrum (58'203); and First Choice (54'820).
MOVEMENTS
With regard to aircraft movements, of the 18'206 handled by the airport throughout October, 18'095 were commercial operations.
Of these, 6'317 were national flights as opposed to the 11'778 flights with international origins or destinations.
The amount of freight handled up to October was 19'545 tons, an increase of 4.5 percent. Palma airport is one of the busiest airports in the country,.
