Met. office boss explains big chill

Palma.—It was only a few weekends ago when many of us were enjoying the beach or lunch on a terrace, but today it will be a different matter all together.

The central heating is on and the summer clothes are packed away - winter, it would appear is here and here to stay.

Maria Jose Guerrero, head of the Balearic Met. office admitted yesterday that the sudden change in the weather this month was unusually sharp. After enjoying 14 consecutive days of sun at the start of the month, we have just gone through seven consecutive days of torrential rain, although it was worse in 2005, according to Guerrero, when it rained non stop for 21 days in Lluc and nine in Palma.
