Opinions of the Autumn tourists

TOURISM is a much valued commodity on Majorca; ensuring its ongoing quality and success is something with which all who live here should be concerned.
The high season presents no problem as visitors come here in sufficient numbers for traditional “sun and sand” holidays. The problem comes when the summer months are over when bookings slump noticeably. Relatively few tourists visit the Island in November but those that do choose to come, select this time of year to escape from the mass package holidays of July and August and opt instead to explore the more cultural aspects of the Island. Christina and Michael, from Stuttgart, indicated they like to come out of season “to avoid the crowds. Also, on Majorca the days are longer in November than they are in their home town. There's a lot more outdoor activity because Germany is already steeped in cold weather.” They remarked that they enjoyed the Cathedral, the Plaza Mayor and the Paseo Maritimo in Palma best of all. Anneliese also from Germany said she enjoyed going on long walks with her husband through the streets of Palma to become steeped in its architecture culture. It's the second time she has visited the Island and clearly prefers to come in low season when there are less people. Mayra had come to visit her son who is studying at the Balearic University just outside Palma and combined the trip with a spot of sight-seeing. It was evident she didn't enjoy crowded holiday locations and preferred to travel outside the summer months. “I'm interested in architecture generally within the context of Mediterranean culture; Majorca offers a fine example.” Michael, from Stuttgart, chooses to come in November because he has a lot of work during the summer and apart from that, doesn't like the heat. He chose the Island as a holiday destination because he had already been to Crete, Greece, Italy ... , and wanted a change. After marrying in Barcelona, Katherine Ishibashi from Japan made a day visit to Palma accompanied by her husband and in-laws. “We liked it so much that we have plans to visit next summer,” she said.
