PALMA
DIFFICULT times loomed yesterday for the opposition Partido Popular (PP) party in the Balearics with the resignation of its spokesperson, former Mayor of Felanitx, Catalina Soler. Visibly moved by her announcement to the media, Soler claimed her decision had been triggered by loss of confidence in the party leadership and by what she referred to as hindrances she had come across in the party machinery. In response, PP vice-secretary Ana Mato said that all party politics involved some manoeuvering prior to policies being presented to Parliament. The internal conflict reportedly came to a head last Monday when Soler defended the worthiness of the ex Mayor of Llucmajor, Lluc Tomàs after he had been condemned to three months jail for misappropriation of public funds.
