AN assault squad from the Balearic Police Command arrested two Spanish nationals yesterday accused of four fire arm crimes in Palma. One of them was detained in a private household allegedly planning the murder of the other.
One detainee aged 29-years-old, and the second aged 43, both have previous criminal convictions and are known drug addicts. They are the alleged authors of robbery with violence and intimidation, illegally holding other people against their will, housebreaking, unlicensed arms use, conspiracy to murder, car theft and document falsification.
A police spokesman added yesterday that a third person had been arrested in conjunction with their investigations into the armed robbery with violence - a 22-year-old Spanish woman. He reported that one of the men had left prison on 10th October last, after serving a three-year jail sentence for armed robbery and other associated crimes. The first assault happened on 19th October when the two accused allegedly held up a woman who had just parked her car in calle Musica Josep Balaguer with her three-year-old son in the back seat. The woman handed over her credit cards and PIN numbers to one of the men who held her at gunpoint whilst the other fled to an automatic cash point.
A second assault took place on 22nd October when the two men reportedly entered a second floor flat in calle Julián Alvarez where there were two women. One of the women managed to escape locking the men inside. Failing to escape by firing a gun into the door lock, the criminals eventually succeeded in climbing over a balcony ledge and absailing down to ground level using a telephone cable.
