PALMA
AIRPORTS in the Balearics claimed 15 percent of the total amount of Spain's air traffic last year reported Central Government's Ministry for Public Works yesterday.
Statistics showed that Palma airport handled the third highest number of passengers in the country throughout 2008. The Balearics were superseded only by Madrid in first place with 25 percent of air traffic and Catalonia with 18 percent.
With 50.85 million passengers, Madrid's Barajas airport was the most individually used last year (compared with the 40.85 million it has handled this year so far to date); ahead of Barcelona with 30.27 million (23.37 million so far in 2009); leaving Palma in third position with 22.83 million in 2008 and 19.59 million from January to October this year.
