Palma.—The Balearic government is spending in excess of three million euros on training local police officers so that they are more “tourist friendly.”
A pilot scheme was carried out in Andraitx last summer and it proved to be a major success so the government has decided to roll out the initiative across Majorca.
So far more than 100 officers from across the islands have undergone training and the Balearic government hopes that many more will follow.
The pilot scheme in Anraitx last summer saw police officers involved in almost 2,000 seperate incidents with tourists.
