PALMA
THE ten illegal North African immigrants caught in Balearic waters on Sunday began appearing in a Palma court yesterday.
The immigrants from Morocco, Algeria and Egypt, were intercepted early on Sunday morning as they neared the island of Cabrera.
The four-metre launch in which they sailed from North Africa to the Balearics was detected by the Guardia Civil which operate four special radars to track rogue orsuspicious shipping across the Balearics as part of the war against drugs and the control of illegal immigration.
The vessel was the fourth carrying illegal immigrants to have reached the Balearics this year and the twelfth over the past two years.
None of the ten on board were minors and when the Guardia Civil reached the scene, most were still inside the small launch.
