A PREFABRICATED house made of wood went up in flames yesterday morning.
The house, about 60 square metres, was close to the Algaida-Sencelles road, about one kilometre from Algaida.
The fire started shortly after 7am and it took firemen two hours to bring it under control.
The alarm was raised by a passing motorist, and firemen described the scene as a ball of fire, when they arrived.
The owner told the firemen that he had not left anything burning on the cooker, and although investigations are continuing, sources said the most likely cause was a short circuit. The entire house and its contents were destroyed by the flames.
Firemen remained on duty until after 10am, to make sure the fire did not start up again.
