TEMPERATURES have now fallen, putting an end to one of the warmest Octobers in the last few years, according to the Balearic Meteorological Centre.
On Thursday temperatures fell by an average of six degrees, putting the average temperature at 19 degrees Celsius, in contrast with the 25 degrees recorded, for example, in Sa Canova on Wednesday. The trend over the next few days will be for the maximum temperatures to be between 18 and 19 degrees, although the weekend will be confusing, according to Miguel Angel Heredia, spokesperson for the Meterological Centre.
There will be a lot of cloud, moderate winds and light rain, but on Sunday (tomorrow) there will be a slight rise in temperatures, he explained.
On being asked if Balearic citizens should now be wearing overcoats, he said no, that is still not necessary.
He added that the sharp decline in temperatures in a little more than a day had been more noticeable due to the high temperatures in October which, on some days, had been over 30 degrees. However, there has now been a noticeable fall in temperatures and many citizens were yesterday wearing their winter clothes.
The fall in temperature has pleased the shopkeepers though, as for weeks they have had displays of winter clothes in their windows.
The lowest temperature on the islands was recorded in the Sierra de Alfabia, 10 degrees Celsius, with a maximum of 13.7 degrees.
The National Institute of Meteorology forecasts cloudy intervals for the Balearics, with the possibility of light rain on Ibiza and Formentera from midday. Temperatures will fall slightly on Minorca and the north east of Majorca will have moderate north winds.
