More Air Berlin flights between Seville and Palma

THE low cost airline Air Berlin will from today increase the number of weekly flights it makes between Seville and Palma from seven to 12, as from Palma you can connect with an “extensive range” of European destinations. This was announced yesterday by their director general for Spain and Portugal, Alvaro Middelmann. Among these destinations he highlighted the connection with Milan and added that, via Palma, you can connect to destinations on other Balearic islands and the mainland, such as Ibiza, Bilbao, Barcelona and Valencia, destinations which “if you compare the cost of the flights and the time they take, it is very interesting”. After saying that the number of passengers transported by the company to and from Seville had grown by 21.3 percent in the first six months of the year, he underlined that this initiative presented “a substantial improvement in the choices for the travelling citizens of Seville and for those who want to visit Seville”. This flight programme will be in operation until March 31, according to the director general, who said that, from April 1 their new Summer programme will start “with the incorporation of the DBA airline” which was bought by Air Berlin this Summer. That programme, the details of which are yet to be published, will decide possible future routes from Seville, he said, before adding that “all new routes will go through Palma”. “Seville is of great strategic importance and we are very pleased with the way our operations in that town are developing”, he remarked. During the first six months of the year the airline recorded an increase of 12.5 percent in its number of passengers, while its sales increased by 14.5 percent. In the case of Andalucia, the amount of passengers increased from 15 to 17 percent, according to Middelmann, who pointed out that it is the wish of the company to consolidate its position in the Andalucian market, where it also operates from Malaga, Almeria and Cadiz.
