LAST year, the Balearics, apart from Spain's North African enclaves of Ceuta and Meliia, suffered the highest rate of juvenile crime in Spain,
According to the annual reports released by the National Statistics Office yesterday, just over 18 of percent (six percent higher than the national average) of every 1'000 crimes committed in the Balearics were carried out by juvenile delinquents aged between 14 and 17.
During the course of last year, a total of 398 juveniles appeared before a Balearic juvenile court and were sentenced under the Juvenile Penal Code. Many are being held in juvenile detention centres.
