THE German athlete Marc Jorgens won the 3rd TUI Marathon on Sunday.
He took 2 hours, 35 minutes and 58 seconds to complete the course through Palma's roads, in a very equal race with Vicente Ogazon, from the Balearics, who was second with a time of 2 hours 36 minutes and 53 seconds. Some 3'700 athletes, the majority of them German, took part in the three races (marathon, half marathon and 10 kilometres) throughout the day, which was organised by the German tour operator Touristik Union International (TUI). In the half marathon, the Spanish domination was overwhelming, as the three first places were taken by Guillem Bosch, of the Xtreme club on Minorca with a time of 1 hour 11 minutes and 32 seconds, Gerardo Rado, of Club Montuiri with a time of 1 hour 13 minutes and 5 seconds, and Juan Zarate, of the Majorcan Marathon Club with a time of 1 hour 15 minutes and 9 seconds. The athletes went through the historic old part of Palma, past the cathedral and along the Paseo Maritimo and through the tourist area of Arenal on their route through the streets of the Balearic capital. The winning woman in the marathon was Birgit Schoenger of Germany with a time of 3 hours 10 minutes and 8 seconds.
