ON average, citizens in the Balearics donate 54 euros per capita to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) which operate on a non-profit making basis. This figure is 15 percent less than the national average which is around the 64 euro mark.
State taxation representative Raul Burillo revealed the figures at a conference at the Balearic lawyers' official college, where he was promoting the tax advantages that can be gained by businesses and individuals alike who elect to finance non-profit making organisations.
Burillo confirmed that the Islands were trailing in the wake of regions of Spain in terms of contributions per capita being made to non-governmental organisations but he said that that could change if people realised just what tax savings they could make by increasing their donations.
