A Dutch submarine Dolfijn became a guest in the port of Palma yesterday whilst her commander and crew are completing a series of exercises in the Mediterranean.
The Dolfijn is a four-unit Walrus class vessel of Dutch design and construction.
She was built in the Rotterdamse Droogdok shipyards in Holland, and like other submarines in this class, has distinguished herself through naval versatility.
She is manned by a crew of 50 who enjoy top-notch accommodation on board.
The submarine is equipped to handle a combination of armaments, principally missiles, torpedoes and mines.
The hull of the Dolfijn is 67.7 metres in length and 8.4 metres abreast. The depth of her keel is 7 metres. The entire vessel is built of a particularly resistant yet flexible material and she is able to dive to a depth of 300 metres. The Dolfijn will be docked in Palma until next Monday.
