Palma.The Spanish National Airports Authority (AENA) confirmed that this was the first time in the history of Palma airport that there had been more than 3 million passengers (+3.1 million) in September.
So Palma airport has had a very positive summer in terms of figures. There were 2'917'877 passengers passing through the airport in June, followed by 3'435'936 in July and 3'494'008 in August.
Of the total number of passengers in September, 3'030'560 were on commercial flights either coming from or going to international destinations, 6.5% more than in September 2011 and 497'832 were national, 11.7% less than in September 2011.
First nine months
From January to September this year, Palma airport has handled 19'174'689 passengers, 0.4% more than during the same period in 2011.
Of these, 19'161'508 passengers were on commercial flights; 14'752'416 were either going to or coming from an international destination (3.9% more than during the same period in 2011) and 4'409'092 were national passengers (-9.8% less than during January to September 2011.
The number of aircraft operations carried out during this time were 144'377, 2.5 percent less than from January to September 2011. Of this total 143'345 were commercial flights. The number of international flights recorded was 95'800, 3.5 percent more than during the same period in 2011 and 47'545 national flights, a decline of 12 percent compared to last year. Ibiza airport also had a good September handling 861'549 passengers, 1.1% more than the same month in 2011. According to AENA, this is a historic record for the month. Ibiza airport also registered highest ever passenger numbers in July and August this year.
At a national level, a total of 153.9 million passengers used Spanish national airports from January to September this year, a downturn of 3.9 percent. There were 1.51 million passengers during the first 9 months of the year.
