THE controversial construction of the new Son Dureta hospital on the Son Espases plot of land looks set to be hit by further delays.
The Balearic Health Ministry is apparently due to ask the IB-Salut Balearic Health Service Consultancy Board to hand over the complete report so it can be studied in full and yesterday was not ruling out further inspections and impact studies in order to guarantee full transparency over the project. According to the Balearic Minister for Health, Aina Castillo, the development of the new Son Dureta project has been carried out properly but the PSM Majorcan Socialist Party is still waiting for her to explain the process in full before parliament. Castillo said yesterday that only 30 percent of the project has been developed, she said that a decision has yet to be made as to which company is going to be in charge of constructing and maintaining the new hospital. The project came under further fire yesterday after it was revealed that construction will cost 105 million euros more that initially planned.
