Three weeks after the new school term should have started, schools were finally open as usual yesterday after teachers agreed at the end of last week to postpone strike action in protest against the government’s trilingual programme.
Palma.—Teachers may have returned to work, but they have been told by the unions and teachers’ association "to do everything possible" to prevent the controversial TILtrilingual (33% English, 33% Catalan and 33% Castilian Spanish) from being introduced in their schools and parents are also being encouraged to attend all parent/teacher meetings to show their support for the teachers’ crusade against the Balearic government.
