Irelative terms, the Balearic Islands have dealt with more mad cow cases than any other Spanish region, although in absolute terms, Galicia leads the mad cow tables, according to declarations made by the Director of the National Centre for Encephalopathy Reference, Juan José Badiola. The Director thinks it is logical that Galicia is the leader in the number of cases, as the area has an enormous number of cows. However, there are other areas that, in relative terms, have had more cases, such as the Balearic Islands, Navarra and Catalonia. In addition, Juan José Badiola made reference to the positive downward curve of the mad cow crisis, and calculated that at the end of this year there will only be around hundred cases. But, it is going to take five to seven years to completely erradicate the problem, he added.
