Palma.—The Balearic government welcomed a court decision yesterday which upholds their policy which states that civil servants no longer have to speak Catalan to work in government department.
The government bill says that speaking Catalan will be a bonus but no longer a requirement for those applying for employment with the local authorities. The court ruling comes during the Balearic wide strike by teachers who are protesting against plans to introduce a three language system in the Balearics; English, Spanish and Catalan.
