THE Balearic Islands was the second most popular holiday cruise destination in the country during the first seven months of the year, the National Ports Authority reported yesterday.
The findings showed that cruise visitors between January and July to ports around the Balearics numbered 783'592, an increase of 24.22 percent in comparison with the same period in 2009. The figures mean that the region came second only to Barcelona on the mainland which claimed 1.18 million cruise tourists in the first 7 months of the year.
At a national level, 3.4 million cruise tourists came to Spain from January to July, an increase of 13.03 percent. The same research showed that in the month of July alone, 111 cruise liners brought 237'825 visitors to the Balearics.
