PALMA City Council yesterday rejected a motion to reassess its cycle lane project tabled by the opposition Partido Popular.
PP Councillor, Carles Veramendi, told the council chamber that the introduction of the five new cycle lanes has caused widespread problems for city residents because of the loss of parking spaces and taxi ranks, the redirection of traffic and the reduction of the number of loading bays for commercial and retail sector vehicles.
He also said that part of the near half a million euro lane recently opened along the Avenidas is only going to be temporary because it runs along the same route of the proposed Palma tram.
However, Palma's Councillor for Social Welfare and Culture, Eberherd Grosske explained that the cycle lanes are part of a large plan to improve the quality of life in Palma for the future
