THE city's Municipal Institute for Tourism, otherwise known as Imtur, threw open to the public yesterday a competition for introducing responsible novelties into the regional tourist industry to give it a competitive edge over other rival holiday destinations.
With a prize of 5'000 euros in the offing, Imtur is hoping to attract the marketing skill of the private sector to involve it in the development of this new concept. The sector would thus receive recognition for their contribution.
Joana Borras, Institutional Relations councillor for Tourism, Commerce and Consumer Affairs was speaking yesterday at City Hall. She said that there is a possibility that local authorities could help with getting the winning project off the ground financially but that would depend on the budget for 2009.
