PALMA is to host the sixth North-South European Economic Forum on September 29 and 30, an event which will bring to the Balearic capital ex-prime ministers and ministers from EU member states and other European countries. In addition, government department Centro Baleares Europa announced yesterday that leaders and delegates from forty countries from around the world are also expected to attend. The department is sponsoring the event which is staged annually by the Institute for European Affairs and the Council for International Economic Relations. Among those attending this year will be the ex-prime minister of Luxembourg, Jacques Santer, who was a former president of the European Commission; the ex-prime minister of Finland, Esko Aho; the ex-deputy minister of External Affairs from the Russian Federation, Albert Tchernishev; the former Speaker of the European Parliament, Klaus Hansch; the former federal chancellor of Austria, Viktor Klima; Prince Hassan of Jordan; the ex-director of the World Bank, Lajos Bokors; the present maritime shipping minister for Greece, and the ex-minister for Foreign Affairs, also for Greece. The Economic Forum, which will be held in the convention centre of the Hotel Meliá Victoria in Palma, will have on its agenda amongst other subjects, the development of European countries, the international relations of the European Union, and world maritime transport.
