LEADERS of the agricultural organisation Asaja in the Balearics, will be meeting this week to plan various ways of finding immediate solutions to the crisis in the sector caused by the rising cost of fuel. In a statement, Asaja criticised the passive and unconcerned attitude of central government to the plight of the sector in the face of high fuel costs, which, the organisation claims, have risen by 40 percent over the last few months. The meeting of heads of Asaja in the Balearics, which has been co-ordinated at a national level, coincides with regional meetings all over the country.
COMPENSATION
Asaja pointed out in their statement that some months ago, they appealed to central government for some compensatory measures to fend off the spiralling costs of fuel. The issue of petrol and diesel oil prices have long been a source of contention in the Balearics. The costs of transportation from the mainland lead to the consumer paying more. Recently, deep concern has been expressed amongst motoring groups, questioning when inflationary charges are going to level off.
