OUR German sister newspaper, Mallorca Magazin, is celebrating its 40th birthday this weekend.
Bernd Jogalla has been the editor of the weekly newspaper since 2009 and he says that things have changed alot since the paper was founded in 1971 by Pere A. Serra, Chairman of the Grup Serra, the German journalist Hans Reitz and Doctor Andres Vidal.
Our first edition had just 24 pages but even in those days German tourism to the islands was starting to increase. These days obviously the newspaper is much larger and it is aimed at both tourists and residents alike. Our readers want to know everything about the island, from new restaurants to new wines from local vineyards, said Bernd Jogalla.
The newspaper editor, like most foreign residents arrived on the island as a tourist and decided to stay.
The future is looking exceptionally bright for Mallorca Magazin and there are various projects on the horizon. Jogalla underlined the fact that they always tried to give a positive twist to all their stories about the island. He said that in some ways they were the best ambassadors for Majorca in Germany!
To celebrate the 40th anniversary last night the German journalist Sabine Christiansen gave a conference at the Pueblo Espanol entitled , The Future of Majorca, on the right route? A large special supplement has also been produced for the anniversary.
