HOUSE sales in Spain fell by 55 percent in July this year in comparison with the same month in 2008, reported the National Institute of Statistics (INE) yesterday.
The same sources said that the month-on-month figures for home buying and selling in the Balearics have risen in July by 36 percent (in June there were 677 transactions) but since the beginning of the year, the market has picked up by 324 percent - in January this year there were only 217 properties bought or sold in the region. Across Spain in July this year, house sales fell by 20.3 percent in comparison to the same month in 2008. The INE reported that the fall in July was more moderate than in June when sales were down 25.5 percent compared to 2008.
