SEVERAL official complaints have been lodged against Palma's Mayor, Aina Calvo, by the Son Gotleu Residents' Association, said its President, Gines Quiñonero yesterday.
On 20th August, a race riot broke out in the Palma suburb of Son Gotleu, largely involving gypsies and Nigerians in a dispute over prostitution and drugs racketeering. Believing that the riot was merely the tip of an iceberg, the association has condemned the Mayor for allegedly not fulfilling her legal obligation to rid the suburb of groups of illegal immigrants who reportedly engage in illicit practices; for not closing illegal telephone and internet centres; and for not ensuring that citizens are safe to walk the streets where they live. A demonstration in front of City Hall is planned for 28th September.
