Man found dead near Son Gotleu

OTHER NEWS

Palma.—The spotlight continues to be on the conflictive Palma neighbourhood of Son Gotleu which was rocked by violent rioting last week after a young Nigerian accidentally died following an argument with a group of local ethnic gypsies.

Yesterday friends and family of Efosa Okosun said that they do not agree with the police's findings and intend to take their own legal action.
A section of the Nigerian community does not believe that Okosun's death, when he fell 15 metres while trying to climb down the outside of a building fearing he was being chased by armed gypsies, was an accident and this has even stirred tensions between fellow Nigerians.

And, police were back in the neighbourhood after a known criminal and drug addict was found dead in the back of a car. According to police sources, the victim died of a drug overdose while apparently trying to steal the car. He was found in the boot by the vehicle's owner.

Police were quick to rule out any foul play and that the death was in anyway connected to the current tension between the Nigerian and ethnic gypsy communities in the area. However, in the short to mid term extra police are going to remain on the beat to ensure that the peace is kept while in the long term, one extra neighbourhood policeman will be stationed in Son Gotleu.

Palma Council also announced yesterday that it is going to begin inspecting all the local businesses in the area to make sure that they comply with the relevant trading laws and possess the necessary licenses.
