PALMA
THE widely acclaimed Carmina Burana Monumental Opera will be performed on Saturday night at Palma Bullring.
The production of Walter Haupt amazingly combines a high level of artistic show elements with great entertainment and his interpretation has been described as changing Carl Orff's Carmina Burana into a big mystic staging with the audience being swept off their feet.
The Opera is made up of twenty-four scenes displaying the pageant of love and loss, of happiness and misfortune, of birth and death all beneath the eternal Wheel of Life which, in Palma's Bullring, should impress the audience with its height of sixteen metres.
The gigantic stage architecture was created by Mihaila Tchernaev and consists of a magnificent backdrop featuring light projections and pyrotechnical effects providing a phenomenal background for the 200 participants that include dancers and their 300 costumes, the choir, the orchestra and soloists.
Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata that was composed by Carl Orff between 1935 and 1936. It is based on 24 of the poems found in the medieval collection Carmina Burana. It is part of Trionfi, the musical triptych that also includes the cantata Catulli Carmina and Trionfo di Afrodite. The best-known movement is O Fortuna that opens and closes the piece.
The production is billed as being the only staging of Carmina Burana in such a brilliant scenic staging and with all the magic and glory of an opera.
