AUGUST WAS HOT AND DRY IN THE BALEARICS, BUT NO RECORDS BROKEN

STAFF REPORTER “HOT but not excessively and dry except for a few localised areas,” was how Agusti Jansa, the director of the Balearic branch of the National Weather Agency (AEMET) described the month of August yesterday.

Records show, he said, that temperatures in the region have been 1.1 degrees Centigrade above the normal for this time of year but no records have been broken.

Jansa explained that people have the impression that August was hotter than usual this year because temperatures were higher in the second fortnight than in the first.

There was also a run of consecutive days when temperatures remained particularly high.
