AROUND 120 golfers will be taking part in the 2nd Majorca Golf Trophy, which will be held on Saturday, 3 September, at the Marriott Golf Son Antem course. The Balearic Golf Federation already has approximately 7'000 members and half of these are residents on the island, said the Manager of the organisation company Tomigolf, Miquel Deia, who presented the golf tournament yesterday. Winners at the golf tournament will be awarded a stone sculpture of golf balls, which have been produced by Asociacio de Margers. Furthermore a Harley Davidson motorbike will be awarded to the golfer who gets a Hole in One at hole number 16.This is the most difficult hole, as it is at a distance of 160 metres and is surrounded by sand and trees, said Miquel Deia. The award ceremony will be held at 3pm in the golf clubhouse at Marriott Golf Son Antem, where there will also be a raffle for those who took part in the golfing. The main aim of this tournament is to bring golf closer to the residents on the islands, since, at the moment it is the tourists and frequent visitors who benefit more from the golf courses, and it is the residents who complain about the less positive aspects of golf, he added. On September 24 there will also be the Golf per Tothom, a golf tournament on the beach.
